FAQ's

Skip size – what size should you hire?

The ideal size of skip depends on the amount of waste and how much space you have to put the skip.

The larger the skip, the cheaper it works out per cubic yard/metre of waste removed.

There are three different sizes of skips to choose from

2 yard - 3 yard - 4yard

What happens to the waste?

Once the skip is removed from the property, it is taken to an approved waste transfer station.

Clear and Skips Ltd are an approved waste carrier which enables us to collect and dispose of waste in a controlled and regulated way.

Once the waste is disposed at the transfer station, the waste will be sorted through and recycled where possible, Up to 90% of waste is recycled.

Where can the skip be left?

All skips must be left on private property only. We can not put any skips on public land including the highway.

It is the hirer's responsibility to put down any boards or similar prior to delivery should you wish to protect the ground where the skip will be left.

Once the skip has been delivered the skip must not be moved as we may be unable to collect it and additional charges will be charged to the hirer.

How long can I have the skip in hire for?

The maximum duration the skip can be on hire for is 8 days (including the day of delivery)

If you finish using the skip earlier than the 8 days please contact us to arrange for a collection

Access restrictions – Access requirements for the skip lorry

Skips are  delivered on large skip lorry that is wider than a car. Make sure there is enough space for the skip lorry to access the place you want the skip to be located or consider changing the location. If the road or gate access is narrow, check with us beforehand that the dimensions of the lorry will fit. Please also consider overhead restriction such as tree branches and cables.

Level load

The maximum amount of waste you can put into the skip is a level load. The level load line is the height/top of the skip.

If skips are overfilled Clear and Go Skips Ltd will refuse to take it away and charges will be applied.

When skips are overfilled they become dangerous to transport, due to excess weight and unsecured loads.

Waste types - What can be put in the skip?

The easiest answer to what can be put in a skip is to list what cannot be put in a skip.

Here are the most common items that cannot be disposed of in a skip:

  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Clinical or medical waste, including syringes
  • Electrical appliances & equipment
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Fridges, freezers and air conditioning units (Additional charges apply and not to be put into the skip, please contact us)
  • Food waste
  • Gas canisters and gas bottles
  • Hazardous & toxic materials
  • Liquids
  • Oil, petrol, diesel
  • Paint & Cans of paint
  • Plasterboard (Additional charges apply and not to be put into the skip, please contact us)
  • Tyres
  • TVs & computer screens
  • Mattresses (Additional charges apply and not to be put into the skip, please contact us)

Beware that if any prohibited items are found when the skip is emptied you are likely to be charged extra and the restricted items returned to you.

Also you will be reported to the environment agency.

We advise that you keep an eye on your skip if it’s in an open and public area because people could put their own rubbish in your skip. If this happens, unfortunately you are responsible for the waste that is in your skip.
